Tools of new materials to replace carbide

ATTACKSMITH

"ATTACKSMITH" series of PCD · CBN tools are our high value-added products.

A pioneering smith

“ATTACKSMITH” series of PCD · CBN tools are our high value-added products.

  • “Smith” comes from the old English word “smite” meaning “strike,” i.e., the work of a blacksmith.
It indicated a person who forges metal with a hammer and later referred to a craftsman.
  • Another theory is that it comes from the old English word “smid,” a person who works in metals.

The brand “ATTACKSMITH” for the series of new material tools from Kyowa embodies our hope to deliver pioneering tools to our customers, i.e., today’s professional smiths.
Kyowa Co., Ltd.:

  • 2002 – Develops and releases small-diameter cBN end mills, the first in Japan.
  • 2008 – Develops and releases cBN spiral mills, the first in Japan.
  • 2010 – Develops and releases three-flute cBN spiral mills, the first in the world.

These are examples of how we challenge ourselves to develop products that incorporate new technologies in the latest materials.
In addition:
In 2011, we released spiral end mills using PCD (diamond sintered compact).
We will continue to work with advanced materials to provide professional customers with tools that are ahead of the times.

cBN tools

These offer excellent roughing and finishing performance on hardened steels from HRC40 to HRC70.

A new cBN tool is now available that features a unique flute shape produced by our own tool grinder and is finished by our patented electrolytic abrasive grain polishing process.
Longer-life, higher-accuracy, and better-quality machining has been achieved through ideal chamfering and sharpening accuracy.
ATTACKSMITH responds with new technologies to enable direct mold milling, which is an earth-conscious method that provides waste-free, resource-saving machining.

PCD (diamond sintered compact) tools

These have unparalleled effects on machining of non-ferrous metals (e.g., Al, Cu, Ti, and Mg alloys with non-ferrous metals) and non-metals (advanced materials, including carbon-fiber composites, carbon, ceramics, and silica glass).

Unprecedented flute shape and machining accuracy are realized through self-developed dedicated equipment.
Small-diameter PCD tools with an unprecedented spiral shape have been made available.
For example, the R tolerance for balls delivers an astounding 3μm accuracy.
